Teddy Tahu Rhodes Alexander Lewis Georgia Wilkinson
Opera By The Lakes
Sunday 15 March 2020
@ Nyerimilang Heritage Park
Gates open 12 noon.
With a stunning venue, set in a natural amphitheatre on a cliff top, with views over the largest lakes system in the Southern Hemisphere, where white-bellied eagles fly on thermal currents, and where over a thousand patrons gather for this sold out event each year. They would not exchange this amazing outdoor venue for anywhere else in the world. It is indeed a perfect setting for this daytime event, now in its 7th year. Is it any wonder that patrons come from far and wide, many in bus tour groups, who are already booking, specifically for this event.
Gippsland Opera always guarantees you top performers, and we are ‘over the moon' that Teddy Tahu Rhodes cleared his diary for OBTL 2020. He absolutely loved the atmosphere, the camaraderie, and said that, and more on ABC radio. We have the international and Opera Australia bass baritone Teddy Tahu Rhodes, with what must be one of the richest, distinctive and powerful voices one has ever had the privilege to listen to. He will be back for an encore performance at Opera By The Lakes. The warmth of tone and musicality that can fill any venue and your hearts will be back for our much loved event.
A newcomer next year, to OBTL will be the outstanding international opera and music theatre star, Alexander Lewis. Described by theatre critics as the most brilliant young tenor ever, he recently starred as Tony in Opera Australia's production of West Side Story on Sydney Harbour, which has been nominated for the top musical. Last year he was also the lead in Merry Widow for Opera Australia in Melbourne. Alexander played the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera, replacing Anthony Warlow as the Phantom. Teddy and Alexander have sung together many times, and we look forward to duets.
Coloratura Soprano Georgia Wilkinson (The Voice) recently thrilled the audience at St Mary’s in a wonderful concert with Nathan Lay. She has just returned from singing with Teddy Tahu Rhodes in Opera Under The Stars in Broome. In October, she will be a finalist in the prestigious Sun Aria, as well as joining Anthony Warlow on stage at Hamer Hall for a sold out season of Jekyll and Hyde. Georgia will undoubtedly be singing duets with Teddy and Alexander at OBTL.
Soprano Madeleine Crombie has performed at OBTL since its inception in 2014, and audiences have loved to see the improvement each year. She was Opera Scholar the Year for Opera Scholars Australia in 2017. Together with her Opera Scholar friends, she created a Delicious concert for us at St Mary’s in June. This lovely singer with a richness of tone and amazing vocal range is a local Metung girl we are all very proud of.
The singers will be supported on the piano again by the incomparable David McNicol.
